Located in Michigan’s wild and scenic Upper Peninsula, the Hiawatha National Forest’s dramatic shorelines lie nestled up to Lakes Superior, Huron and Michigan — three of the five great lakes. Our lakeshores, lighthouses, islands and abundant snow create a place of respite and play within a day’s drive of urban and rural areas of Michigan, Wisconsin, other nearby states and international locations.

With over 100 miles (160 kilometers) of Great Lakes shoreline, Hiawatha National Forest offers an inviting array of waterfront opportunities. From expansive sand beaches to towering cliffs, from rich dune habitats to historic waterfront sites, the Hiawatha’s shorelines and islands offers many interesting places for solitude and enjoyment.

In addition to our Great Lakes waterfront, there are many inland lakes on both the east and west units that have beautiful beaches for your enjoyment. There is no shortage of beachfront on the Hiawatha.
